Today, during the chovgan competition held at the Sheki City Stadium as part of the 3rd CIS Games, the President of the Turkish Chovgan Federation, Fatih Kose, shared his thoughts on the historical significance of this sport and the cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in this area.
According to him, chovgan is an ancient Turkic game with a history of about 2,400 years.:
“It was formed in Turkestan, Central Asia, from where it spread all over the world and today forms the basis of the modern polo game. This common cultural heritage has been preserved by Azerbaijan for centuries and has never been forgotten. Azerbaijan has played a leading role in the development of this sport.”
Fatih Kose noted that Turkey also attaches great importance to the revival of this ancient game:
“We are currently actively working on the joint development of this valuable heritage with Azerbaijan.”
The President of the Federation stressed the importance of participation in the 3rd Games of the CIS countries:
“Participation in these competitions is of particular importance for us in terms of the development of both sports and cultural relations. Chovgan is not just a sport, but also a cultural bridge that strengthens friendship and cooperation between peoples.”
Highly appreciating the organization of the 3rd CIS Games by Azerbaijan, F.Kose said:
“Azerbaijan pays great attention to this sport. The warm attitude and support of the audience motivate us. We hope they enjoy these games.”
