III CIS Games: Azerbaijan basketball 3×3 Teams reach the semifinals

Today in Ganja, the basketball 3×3 competitions kicked off as part of the III CIS Games.

The Azerbaijan national teams for boys and girls (U-17) have advanced to the semifinals.

The Azerbaijan boys’ team (Huseyn Gaflanov, Emanuel Agbasan, Ismail Abdullaev, and Oguzhan Guliyev), competing in Group A, secured victories over Tajikistan (21-13) and Kyrgyzstan (18-6), but lost to Russia(8:21).

Finishing second in their group, the team qualified for the semifinals where they will face Belarus, who topped Group B. The other semifinal match will be between Russia and Uzbekistan.

The Azerbaijan girls’ team (Polina Shukina, Deniz Gyokchol, Angelina Ismailova, and Leyla Allahverdiyeva) started the tournament with a loss to Uzbekistan (13-16), but then bounced back with three consecutive wins, securing their place in the semifinals. They defeated Kazakhstan (20-5), Russia (19-18), and Belarus (18:17).

The girls’ tournament featured five teams and was played in a round-robin format, with the top four advancing to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Azerbaijan will face Uzbekistan. The other semifinal match will be between Russia and Belarus.

The semifinals, bronze medal matches, and finals will take place tomorrow starting at 16:00.
