Today, at the III CIS Games, the women’s individual épée competitions kicked off.
At the Ganja Sports Palace, M. Abasova finished the group stage with three victories. In the playoffs, she defeated Belarusian fencer Agata Tsarkova with a score of 15:12 and advanced to the top eight. In the quarterfinals, the Azerbaijani athlete overcame Russia’s Anastasia Ilyushenko — 15:13, securing a place in the semifinals and guaranteeing herself a bronze medal. In the fight for a place in the final, Mirnuray narrowly lost to Russian fencer Anastasia Zabelina with a score of 14:15.
This is Azerbaijan’s first medal in fencing at the III CIS Games.
