Media representatives from six countries who arrived in Azerbaijan to cover the 3rd CIS Games took part in an exciting cultural media tour along the Shusha–Khankendi route.
Shusha — the pearl of the Karabakh and the cradle of Azerbaijani culture — opened its doors to journalists, showcasing its rich historical and cultural heritage and the unique atmosphere of this ancient city.
The media tour began at the central square of Shusha, near the legendary spring “Khan Gizi” (“Khan’s daughter”). This water system was constructed in the 19th century by the prominent poetess Khurshid Banu Natavan. The popular name of the spring — “Khan’s daughter” — has preserved the memory of this noble philanthropic act.
Next, the journalists visited one of the most iconic symbols of the city — the Ganja Gates of the Shusha fortress, built between 1750 and 1752 by the Karabakh ruler Panah Ali Khan. In the past, the fortress had three main gates — the Ganja, Iravan, and Aghoghlan gates. Today, this historical site has become a favorite photo spot for visitors from around the world.
Particular attention was drawn to the majestic Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, an architectural monument of national significance, which is an important part of Shusha’s cultural heritage.
A visit to Jidir Duzu left an unforgettable impression — this famous plateau lies at the edge of the breathtaking Dashalty gorge. For every Azerbaijani, this place is symbolic; for foreign journalists, it was a revelation, with its truly breathtaking panoramas.
The next stop was the Isa Bulaghi recreational complex, located in a dense forest four kilometers from Shusha at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level. The “Isa Bulaghi” spring is considered a true gem of Azerbaijani nature: its water is cold, pure, and healing.
A lunch was organized here for the guests, after which the media tour continued to Khankendi. In Khankendi, the journalists walked through the city’s central square, visited the Karabakh University, and witnessed a major sporting event.
Today, the fully renovated Khankendi Stadium hosted the archery competitions of the III CIS Games — the first international sporting event of this scale to be held in the city since its liberation.”
Top archers from across the CIS countries have come together here to battle for medals at the III CIS Games. The competition will take place from October 2 to 5, concluding with the finals.”
