Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus on the III CIS Games — “When I arrived in Ganja, I felt nostalgic”

Alexander Baraulya, Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, currently visiting Azerbaijan with an official delegation, gave a positive assessment of the organization of the III CIS Games.

“When I arrived in Ganja, I felt nostalgic. Two years ago, Belarus hosted the CIS Games, organizing competitions across several cities. It is very pleasing to see that Azerbaijan is using the same approach — it is an excellent opportunity to showcase not only the sports facilities but also the culture, atmosphere, and hospitality of the country’s regions,” he noted.

According to Baraulya, the organization of the competitions is at a high level: delegations are comfortably accommodated, all conditions for athletes are carefully arranged, and the sports facilities themselves make a strong impression.

He especially highlighted the Ganja Sports Palace.

“The Ganja Sports Palace is a multi-sport venue hosting competitions in four sports. It is spacious and convenient — all necessary conditions have been created. The heads of delegations I spoke with expressed very positive feedback and sincerely thanked the organizers for their warm welcome.”

Baraulya also noted that Belarusian athletes are in good spirits and focused on their performance:

“They are very satisfied. There have been no issues with everyday living conditions. Everyone is impressed by the Azerbaijani cities they have visited. However, the athletes are now primarily focused on the competitions. They came here to deliver their best results and compete for medals. The competition is very tough — teams from Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and other countries are very strong. Every day, they have to fight to remain among the top three.”

When asked about the impact of the Games on relations between CIS countries, Baraulya emphasized:

“Undoubtedly, these Games have a positive impact. Athletes communicate, get to know one another, and learn about each other’s cultures. This is important. Relations between the countries are warm and at a high level. We are reminded of this again through such sporting events.”

During his visit, Baraulya participated in a meeting of CIS sports ministers, where prospects for the IV Games were discussed. The host country is still undecided, with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan considered as possible candidates.

“We are confident that the Games will continue. This project has fully justified itself. I believe a decision on the next host will be made by the end of the year,” he said.

In conclusion, Baraulya reminded that Azerbaijan has significant experience in hosting major international competitions:

“Azerbaijan has successfully hosted the European Games, World Championships, and international tournaments in various sports. They know how to organize events — and it shows in everything. The CIS Games are another confirmation of the country’s high sporting culture. Thank you for the warm welcome and excellent organization,” he concluded.
