Azerbaijan’s first swimming medals in the history of the CIS Games

The next medalists of the swimming competitions, which were held at the Ganja Sports Palace as part of the 3rd CIS Games, have been determined.

In the women’s 200–meter backstroke, Russia’s Anastasia Kobzar took first place, Kazakhstan’s Margarita Zaitseva and her compatriot Margarita Rayenka took second and third place, respectively.

Alexander Filipets of Russia won the gold medal in the 1 500-meter freestyle among men, Suleiman Ismailzade of Azerbaijan won the silver medal, and Bogdan Toropkin of Russia won the bronze medal.

In the 4×100–meter mixed relay, the Russian national team took first place, Belarus – second, Kazakhstan – third, Azerbaijan – fourth, Uzbekistan – fifth.

Ilya Lamshanov of Russia won gold in the men’s 200–meter individual medley, Maxim Malushka of Belarus won silver, and Egor Mainitsky of Azerbaijan won bronze.

Earlier, Azerbaijani athlete Mehri Abdurakhmanli won a bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. Thus, they became Azerbaijan’s first medals in swimming in the history of the CIS Games.

It should be noted that the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gaibov took part in the award ceremony.

The 3rd CIS Games taking place from September 28 to October 8, 2025, in seven cities across Azerbaijan: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi.
